IMPORTANT INFORMNATION

Public Colleges and Universities: Graduates of the SouthWest Academy home school program are eligible to attend any public college, university, or technical school in Texas and most other states.

Private For Profit Vocation Schools: Some private, for-profit technical and vocation schools have changed their policies and no longer accept home school graduates. If you intend to apply to a private vocational school, it is your responsibility to contact them prior to enrolling in our home school program.  Ask them specifically if they accept SouthWest Academy home school program graduates.  We will not be able to refund any tuition fees paid, once you have completed our home school program. As well, we cannot guarantee admission to any private school or employment with any specific private employer.

Public Colleges & Universities: We, nonetheless, feel that it is always best to attend a public institution for post-high school studies as they are always accredited, affordable and reputable options. Never sign financial aid documents that assign your Federal Pell grant and/or loan proceeds to a vocational school. Beware: if, for any reason, you are unable to complete a private vocational program, you will be liable for all loans made in your name to pay their extremely high tuition fees. However, your free Pell grant of up to $5000 annually will usually cover the costs of most community college programs and therefore there should not be any student loans to pay back after graduation.

All Military Services: All persons wanting to enter the military must complete at least 15 semester hours at any college or university prior to enlisting.

College and Community College Testing: Persons entering community colleges, junior colleges or open admissions universities, such as the University of Houston Downtown or Texas Southern University, will be required to take the THEA exam, a placement test in reading, writing and math, as part of the registration process.  The student's scores are used for placement purposes.  If a student obtains a low score, he or she will have to take remedial courses at the college and the student will not receive college credit for classes taken, until those entrance exams have been passed.

University Admission: All selective admissions universities such as University of Houston Main Campus, University of Texas, and Texas A & M require SAT or ACT entrance exam scores.  These exams can be scheduled on line, or at the university where you intend to apply.
